Standard Robots Wins Silver Medal at the Inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games

Aug 17,2025

On August 14, the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games grandly kicked off in Beijing under the theme "Intelligent Competition for the Future".The event brought together 280 competing teams from 16 countries across the globe for head-to-head contests.

DARWIN, the industrial embodied-intelligence robot, stood out with its outstanding technical performance and secured the silver medal in the scenario-based competition. This serves as vivid proof of DARWIN's breakthrough progress in deployment capabilities within real-world complex scenarios.

Competition-field Showcase: A True Powerhouse in Industrial Embodied Intelligence

Making its debut appearance, Standard Robots took part in four challenging events of the scenario-based competition: mixed-material sorting, material handling, material organizing, and guest reception service. In the mixed-material sorting challenge, DARWIN coped with multi-form, randomly scattered materials with extremely high similarity. Amid strong-light interference set by the competition venue, it successfully fulfilled the full-sequence competition tasks: identification, positioning, grasping, moving and placing.

Though deeply rooted in industrial-scenario practices, Standard Robots took this competition as a technical touchstone. Against tight preparation timelines and the challenge of competing across four major events, the team delivered an outstanding performance. Meanwhile, DARWIN was the only embodied robot on site capable of completing all scenario-based events with merely one universal gripper.

DARWIN at the Competition

DARWIN: Full-Scenario Robust Operational Performance

  • Wide-ranging Grasping: An extra-large grasping range enables flexible adaptation to materials of diverse shapes and sizes.

  • Precise Perception: Equipped with a full-body multi-sensor matrix for accurate detection of material positions and status.

  • Stable Handling: Dual-arm collaborative payload capacity of 10 kg to achieve steady material transfer.

  • Agile Mobility: Proprietary SLAM technology and omnidirectional mobile chassis support agile navigation and precise positioning in complex environments.

Standard Robots adopts a technical architecture featuring “hierarchical brain-cerebellum design and hybrid architecture of individual and swarm intelligence". Leveraging dual fast-and-slow systems, it combines general inference models with deterministic task execution to guarantee operational efficiency. DARWIN’s competitive performance at the event serves as excellent real-world validation of this technical approach.

Passing the Torch: Trusting and Empowering Young Talents

Behind the competition honors lies the technical heritage of Standard Robots.

The robotic dream of Standard Robots' founding team was ignited back in 2009 by news of Harbin Institute of Technology winning the championship at the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest. In 2025, Standard Robots evolved from mobile robots to industrial embodied-intelligence robots. By claiming the silver medal at the inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games, the company has carried forward this time-honored legacy of competition-field glory.

Guided by the talent philosophy of "Select Young Talents and Trust Young Talents", Standard Robots has jointly launched the HIT Outstanding Engineer Program with the School of Future Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology. The initiative is committed to cultivating a new generation of engineers with solid theoretical expertise and practical capabilities. Members of the HIT Outstanding Engineer Program participated in the DARWIN Evolution Team for this competition. Emerging young talents have demonstrated their strengths at this top-tier event, enabling the continuous inheritance of the company’s innovation gene across generations.

Competitions as Stepping Stones: On the Path of Iterative Innovation

The event serves not only as a powerful demonstration of technical prowess, but also as a growth opportunity for dialogue with top global players. Going forward, Standard Robots will take competitions as a mirror for progress, continuously advancing its industrial embodied-intelligence technologies and innovation capabilities. The company will further deepen algorithm innovation to boost dynamic performance and general-purpose adaptability, enabling robots to perceive the physical world with higher precision and engage in more flexible interaction and collaboration.

Delivering independently developed Chinese industrial embodied intelligence solutions to meet the transformation needs of global manufacturing, Standard Robots empowers the continuous evolution of industrial intelligence with safe, reliable, intelligent and efficient robotic technologies — showcasing robust Chinese technological momentum for the industry.
